Community Homeworks

Mission: To empower low-income families to maintain safe, sustainable, and dignified homes through access to affordable home repair services, education about home maintenance and repair, and weatherization to achieve long-term savings on utilities.

Services: Critical Home Repair: addresses urgent issues of health and safety and prevention of property deterioration through plumbing, electrical, mechanical and structural repairs; Weatherization: helps homeowners save energy and increase comfort in their homes through an energy solutions package of upgrades that together will help families reduce utility bills by as much as 50%; Home Maintenance and Repair Education: weekly workshops covering all aspects of home repair to teach people how and why to maintain their homes.

Area Served: Kalamazoo County

Eligibility: Varies by program. In general, for home repairs, families must have household incomes at or below 80% of the area median income. For weatherization, families must have household incomes at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. Go to website or call for current guidelines and application requirements.
