Founded in 1994 as a collaboration between Kalamazoo's two hospitals, Borgess and Bronson, West Michigan Cancer Center (WMCC) is a not-for-profit, outpatient cancer center. We offer a multidisciplinary, integrative approach to treating cancer patients in a nine-county area of Southwest Michigan. Our four floor, 55,000 square foot main campus is located in downtown Kalamazoo and we average 3,000 new cancer and hematology patient consults per year. Clinical services include chemotherapy/biotherapy, radiation therapy, diagnostic imaging with a PET/CT scan, breast cancer clinic, neuro oncology clinic, hemophilia clinic, gastrointestinal conference, genitourinary conference, gynecologic oncology conference, hematology conference, thoracic conference, genetic counseling, survivorship program, quality of life program, laboratory services and outpatient oral pharmacy on site. WMCC is a member of the Cancer Research Consortium of West Michigan (CRCWM), part of the National Cancer Institute Clinical Oncology Research Program (NCORP), which provides patients access to a vast number of clinical trials. Support services are coordinated by licensed, masters-level social workers who assist patients with mental health needs, community resources, transportation and housing assistance, crisis intervention, employment rights, support groups, grief and loss concerns and end-of-life issues. Registered dietitians offer nutritional services. Financial counseling, prescription coverage and advocacy is also provided. Wellness programming includes tai chi, yoga and cooking classes on site and massage services for patients in treatment. Clinical staff includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, physician assistants, genetic counselors, pharmacists, physicists, radiation therapists and oncology-certified nurses. A CEO/CMO and board of trustees of community and medical leaders comprise the leadership team. WMCC is one of the first oncology practices in the national to be recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The center is also accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), the American College of Radiation Imaging Network (ACRIN) and the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC). The Breast Cancer Clinic at WMCC is a comprehensive clinic. The patient's health care team includes medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, nurse practitioners/physician assistants, surgeons, pathologists, radiologists, genetic counselors, clinical trials nurses, social workers, dietitians and a clinic coordinator.
