West Michigan Cancer Center & Institute for Blood Disorders

West Michigan Cancer Center Radiation & Surgical Specialties was founded in 1994 as a collaboration between Kalamazoo's two hospitals, Ascension Borgess and Bronson, West Michigan Cancer Center (WMCC) is a not-for-profit, outpatient cancer center. We offer a multidisciplinary, integrative approach to treating cancer patients in a nine-county area of Southwest Michigan. Our four floor, 55,000 square foot main campus is located in downtown Kalamazoo and we average 2,000 new cancer patient consults per year. Clinical services include gynecologic oncology, radiation oncology and surgical oncology, as well as a clinical research department. WMCC is a member of the Cancer Research Consortium of West Michigan (CRCWM), part of the National Cancer Institute Clinical Oncology Research Program (NCORP), which provides patients access to a vast number of clinical trials. Support services are coordinated by licensed, masters-level social workers who assist patients with mental health needs, community resources, transportation and housing assistance, crisis intervention, employment rights, support groups, grief and loss concerns and end-of-life issues. Registered dietitians offer nutritional services. Financial counseling, prescription coverage and advocacy is also provided. Wellness programming includes support groups, art therapy classes and massage services for patients in treatment. Clinical staff includes radiation oncologists, gynecologic oncologists, a surgical oncologist, physician assistants, physicists, radiation therapists and oncology-certified nurses. An executive director and board of directors of community and medical leaders comprise the leadership team. WMCC is one of the first oncology practices in the national to be recognized by the Quality Oncology Practice Initiative (QOPI) Certification Program, an affiliate of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO). The center is also accredited by the American College of Radiation Oncology (ACRO), the American College of Radiation Imaging Network (ACRIN), the National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) and the National Pancreas Foundation.
